Allianz investment in renewable energy exceeds two billion euro milestone

Map of renewable energy

Forterre is Allianz’s latest wind park acquisition in 2014 / The overall portfolio now contains 47 wind farms and seven solar parks generating enough electricity to meet the annual needs of Munich.

Allianz Capital Partners (ACP) has exceeded 2 billion euros in renewable energy investments. ACP’s wind and solar parks have a generating capacity of approximately 1200 megawatts of electricity - enough for over half a million European households which is comparable to a city the size of Munich. Since 2005, Allianz has invested in 47 wind farms and seven solar parks in Germany, France, Italy and Sweden via its subsidiary Allianz Capital Partners.

David Jones, Head of Renewable Energy at Allianz Capital Partners: "Reaching 2 billion euros of equity investment in renewables is a milestone worth marking and consolidates Allianz’s position as one of the world’s leading investors in sustainability."

ACP reached this amount recently with the acquisition of the 28-megawatt Forterre wind farm in the Yonne department of the Burgundy region in France. The project, acquired from leading French renewable energy company EOLE-RES SA, is currently under construction with commercial operation scheduled for the first quarter of 2015. Once commissioned, the wind farm will be operated by EOLE-RES.

“We are very pleased to continue our successful relationship with EOLE-RES with the acquisition of Forterre”, commented David Jones on the acquisition. “We look forward to working with them on the successful construction and long term operation of the wind farm and hopefully on further projects in the future.”

Earlier in 2014, ACP acquired its second wind park in Sweden. It is located in Sattravallen, Southern Sweden and has a capacity of 52-megawatts. Additionally during the year, ACP has expanded its portfolio with the acquisition of the 54-megawatt Portes de la Cote D’or wind farm in Burgundy, France and the 24-megawatt Cottbuser See and 31-megawatt Calau wind farms, both located in Brandenburg, Germany.
